WASHINGTON, DC (April 13, 2018) — American Womens Alliance President of Gayle Trotter issued the following statement about House Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement that he will leave Congress in November 2018:
“Speaker Paul Ryan’s greatest failure was not repealing Obamacare with a Republican president. For years, members of Congress, including Ryan, said if they just gained control of the House, they would repeal Obamacare. Then, if they just gained control of the Senate, they would repeal Obamacare. Then, if they just had the White House, they would repeal Obamacare. When the American people gave Paul Ryan the House, the Senate, and the White House, his leadership failed to deliver the promised repeal of Obamacare.
“Speaker Ryan also made a name for himself with lots of talk about fiscal responsibility. The Omnibus Spending Bill he delivered to President Trump’s desk last month ballooned the deficit and the debt to unprecedented levels, funding Planned Parenthood and many other objectionable projects.
“Leftist media tout Speaker Ryan’s retirement announcement as a blow to conservatives. The reality is that Speaker Ryan’s inability to deliver on so many promises requires fresh leadership in the House.
“Let’s hope the next Speaker will do more to accomplish the agenda that drove the people to vote Republican in the first place.”
